At the Presidential Villa in Abuja, President Bola Tinubu swore Senator George Akume in as the next Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
The governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hycent Alia, as well as various serving and previous governors, including former Nasarawa state governor Tanko Almakura and the most recent SGF, Boss Mustapha, were present at the brief event today (Wednesday).
Others were Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Ahmed Lawan, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, head of the Federation’s civil service, and Mrs. Regina Akume, the wife of the new SGF.
Note that Tinubu had already declared the former governor of Benue state to be the new SGF.
Additionally, the President named Senator Ibrahim Hadejia, a former deputy governor of Jigawa State, as the deputy chief of staff and Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila as the chief of staff.
Director of Information at State House Abuja, Abiodun Oladunjoye, released a statement announcing the appointment.
The statement claims that the President made the nomination known to the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) during a meeting they had in the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Under previous President Muhammadu Buhari, Akume served as the recently departed Minister of Special Duties.
